Yesterday, CNET released a lengthy review of the 360 HD-DVD peripheral. Even though they only gave it an overall rating of 7.5 out of 10 they seem to praise the marketability of the add-on as well as the extra USB ports on the back in case you want to add even more to your 360. The price is a manageable $199.99 which is a great bargain if you currently own a 360, and it helps bring the 360 up to par with the next gen level that the Playstation has been banking on.
The only downside is that it doesn’t offer HDMI connectivity so there’s no way to output your HD-DVD’s via HDMI. There is also no 1080p output either, but with the marketplace releasing HD movies over the marketplace who needs HDMI. They also praise the beauty of the picture and that it matches up with the Toshiba HD-A1 which retails for an incredible $499.99. In conclusion, the HD-DVD drive is a must have for any HD fan who currently owns a 360. One must note though that the $200 price tag brings the total cost of the console to the same price of the Playstation3 and its integrated Blu-ray drive.

Anybody living outside of the US won’t be able to use the Video Marketplace, so there’s a lot of people who needs it.
