While gaming on the current incarnation of the Zune is a non topic, gaming on a future version of the Zune is a possibility. Chris Lewis, Microsoft’s Entertainment Chief for Europe, the Middle East and Africa has hinted at gaming being one of the logical next steps for the Zune.
“At the moment, we are focused on creating connected experiences around music for Zune. You can already plug your Zune device into your Xbox 360 to stream music, pictures and video content. Looking ahead, the vision for connected entertainment provides a number of consumer scenarios and with our heritage in Xbox and Games for Windows, gaming is certainly something we’re considering for the device.”
For the few who own Zune at the moment this is great and all,but this news may be just what the doctor ordered for those who haven’t chosen whether or not to take the plunge into the handheld media market yet. Given the fact that this statement has to taken with a huge grain of salt, it only begins to make you think all of the possibilities. Xbox Live Arcade on the go would be a good start.

I am already thinking about picking up a zune, but I would be sold for sure if things I purchased on the xbox live marketplace could be put onto it.

Gaming on the Zune would leave MS in a sort of weird position brand-wise. I’d be more interested if they produced a handheld with the Xbox brand which had music playing capabilities.
