Gamespot were lucky enough to sit down with one of the developers behind a new game coming for the 360 this winter, Left 4 Dead. The big question will be; is Left 4 Dead simply going to be a glorified version of Dead Rising or is it going to blossom in the niche market that Dead Rising discovered, only time will tell. The whole story is based around a rabid strain of rabies that is quickly spreading throughout the city, but you are one of the lucky who seem to be immune to it as you struggle to escape from the city. Throughout reading the interview you discover that you can play either a survivor or one of the infected throughout contemporary America. It seems you we be able to choose from 4 survivors each with there own pros and cons while the same goes for the infected.
Yet, Left 4 Dead will be unique in that it will have a multiplayer aspect where you can go online and play with or against other humans which will give the game a unique feature that Dead Rising simply neglected. “The game is designed to allow human players to drop in and out without adversely affecting the experience or requiring the scenario to restart. We have also taken steps to maintain the survivor’s game experience even with the presence of human-controlled infected. Although the infected can “win” by killing all of the survivors before they reach the finale and escape, it doesn’t feel like a traditional competitive game–it still feels very cooperative from the survivor side.”
And for weapons “for the initial release of Left 4 Dead, the game’s arsenal consists of weaponry that you would be able to scavenge during such a catastrophe: handguns, hunting rifles, shotguns, even some homemade weaponry like pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails.” They are also planning on continually releasing new material, over Xbox Live I assume, that will keep gamers interested.
There is no exact release date, but you still have to question if killing zombies will still be as fun this coming winter as it was when Dead Rising was released?

WHy on earth would you want to question if killing zombies will still be fun?
Killing zombies is ALWAYS fun, and there’s always more room for another zombie game in the market.

I am just skeptical because I don’t want it to be a dead rising rip-off. Maybe the multiplayer as well as the ability to play 4 different people on the survivor and infected side will add a new aspect to the game. I am curious to see how this will work out. I never bought dead rising becasue after playing the game (rental) it seemed like I would be doing the same thing over and over again.
I know killing mindless hoards of zombies can be fun, but I just can’t do it for two hours straight and that’s what dead rising game me. Hopefully this one will have a little more differentiation when it comes to moving about the level and searching for new ways of attacking the zombies.
Think about climbing into a tree and waiting for hoards of zombies to gather underneath you then throwing a molotov cocktail right into the center. That would be awesome.
