Two of Rare’s founders Chris and Tim Stamper have left Rare for what was called “other opportunities”. After the Microsoft acquisition 4 years ago, Rare has released five games under the Microsoft Games Studios umbrella. Sure to be linked to the slow sales of Viva Pinata, Microsoft has assured that this has nothing to do with the disappointing sales of Viva Pinata. Mark Betteridge and Gregg Mayles will be the replacements at Studio Director and Creative Director. While Viva Pinata isn’t the first Rare game to be hugely underrated, Kameo was and is still panned by most for not living up to high expectations. I myself loved Kameo , and can’t figure out why so many don’t like it. Hopefully this change in staff will change Rare’s fortune.
