If your 360 is ever in the need of service and I know quite a few of you will be needing it if you haven’t already, you’ll be somewhat happy to know that the warranty and service agreement has been upgraded again. So that there isn’t any confusion, here are the updates strait from Xbox.com. Now it is as follows:
Free Shipping:
In the event your console needs to be returned to us for repair your shipping costs are free. We will immediately send you a postage paid container in which to send us your console, and we will pay for shipping charges to return your console to you.
We are committed to delivering an improved Xbox customer service experience for our Xbox 360 console customers, one that is faster, more efficient and includes shipping free of any charge. From our customer service representatives to our executive team, the entire Xbox team has made delivering on this commitment a top priority.
New Post-Service Warranty:
If we repair your Xbox 360 within the original warranty period, you will receive either the balance of your original warranty, or 90 days, whichever is longer. In addition, we will now pay for the shipping both ways.
If we repair your Xbox 360 after the warranty period has expired, while you will be responsible for the repair costs, your repaired console will be returned to you with a new, one year repair warranty.
Return of Original Console
In either an in warranty or out of warranty situation, most customers will now receive their original console back from Microsoft.
2. Faster Service
We are implementing an expedited repair process; upon receipt of the console, Microsoft will repair it and ship it to you within five business days.
3. Enhanced Operations
We’re increasing the number of Xbox customer care representatives, enhancing our training processes and further building out our on-site technical support, all so our customers will begin to experience a noticeable improvement in the quality of the service they receive when they contact us.
Xbox will be hiring a customer care champion who will be responsible for ensuring the end-to-end experience for all Xbox customers is first-class, evaluating and implementing new practices and policies to further enhance the Xbox customer experience. We are also adding more staff at the supervisory level, to ensure we serve you better.

Got mine back today… A couple of minutes ago in fact.
Just a note to all who may think that there is no hope for them because they bought their system on release, and it recently died… You may have one other option other than buying a new console or paying for the hefty repair costs. Your Xbox 360 is covered by an Implied Warranty, which is:
“Implied warranties are unspoken, unwritten promises, created by state law, that go from you, as a seller or merchant, to your customers. Implied warranties are based upon the common law principle of ‘fair value for money spent.’ There are two types of implied warranties that occur in consumer product transactions. They are the implied warranty of merchantability and the implied warranty of fitness for a particular purpose.”
So although your Express Warranty is no longer valid, it still may be Microsoft’s responsibility to repair your console at their expense. You just have to argue that it was in normal use and that the problem was only a defect of their product.

I don’t think I would be able to use that excuse but it never hurts to try. I hope that my console doesn’t break down on me now though.
Also a quick question. If I bought a year warranty at Gamestop and it expired in March then would the 360 one-year warranty kick in or would they overlap. I only ask because if my 360 breaks I really don’t want to pay for it now that I have had it for a year. Call me cheap but I would rather buy a whole new system altogether, maybe the elite or something I don’t know. I would rather just get it repaired for free if possible.
If anyone knows about the Gamestop warranty and being able to extend it for one year with the 360 warranty I would like to know

Sorry Hoosierdaddy, your Xbox Express 1-year Warranty is in effect from the day you purchase it (Or when you registered it?). No matter what other Warranties or Service Agreements you have with any other stores or companies, it doesn’t effect or extend the length of the Warranty provided by Microsoft.
But again, if all else fails, its at least worth a try to argue with Microsoft Tech Support that you didn’t misuse your 360 in any way and therefore it should be covered by an implied warranty.
