Everyone has seemed to notice the release of a teaser site for Fallout 3; a role-playing game currently under development by Bethesda Softworks. It will be the third major game in the Fallout series, which has also spawned two spin-offs, Fallout Tactics, and Brotherhood of Steel. The Fallout series are set in a post-apocalyptic world following The Great War, a nuclear war that occurred on October 23, 2077 and lasted less than two hours but caused immense damage and destruction. It the game you play the role of the Vault Dweller who is an inhabitant of a government-contracted fallout shelter.
Fallout 3 was slated to release at an earlier date but Interplay the creators of the game went bankrupt and Bethesda took over from there. When they acquired the rights to produce the game early in 2004 it was put aside while they finished the critically acclaimed hit, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. With some experience under their belt you can be sure that the new Fallout will take on some of the familiar characteristics that we have come to know and love while playing Obilvion. A major element of the Fallout series has always been interacting with various NPC’s throughout the course of the game and seeing how the similarities match up with Oblivion I’m sure we will see another hit with Fallout 3. Bethesda hasn’t yet announced what platform the game will be released on but it will use the same Gamebryo engine as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion that can be utilized on either a PC or the Xbox 360 and PS3.
The site is merely counting down to the release of a teaser trailer which is currently 34 days away or a little over a month. Many die hard Fallout fans will be interested to see how Bethesda is shaping the game and what they can expect from the creators of Oblivion. I have been excited about this game ever since playing Oblivion since there hasn’t been any current release to satisfy my RPG needs. I look forward to Bethesda creating an environment where the player can become completely immersed in the Fallout world. I guess we will just have to wait to see what Bethesda is doing with the game and if they can create another hit.
