In a interview with Next Gen, Bungie’s Frank O’connor had this to say about the criticisms of Halo 3 as of this point with the beta:
“Well to be honest, we’ve seen them [the graphics] praised too. Multiplayer is by necessity a more sterile iteration of our graphical style and will always be tuned for performance and elegance rather than jamming the screen full of pixels. We think that the final aesthetic look of our game will be judged at launch in September and in part based on the more intense single player spaces. We’re also focused on maintaining the Halo character and atmosphere in our visual design – we’re competing with ourselves, and not simply trying to match the aesthetic of other games. We think that folks will be happy with Halo 3’s graphical polish come September.”
Just taking from this, it’s annoying to continue to hear people complain about the graphics of this “unfinished” game. The continued running under the bus this games graphics has been taking makes it clear as to why the public hardly ever gets a opportunity to play a game early. Complain as we must about Halo 3 not looking like Gears of War, lets not forget that this game is Halo, not Gears of War. Let’s leave it at that until September or until a shred of single player campaign is shown, but don’t hold your breath on that.

You make a really good point in this story…
I am really sick of other gamers trashing the H3 beta because it doesn’t look as good as Gears of War. Of course it doesn’t! That’s why it’s a beta. Thanks for making this point.

Is there any else in the world that doesn’t like Gears all that much. I find the funneled down a corridor gameplay in Gears insufferable. Yes you can chainsaw someone in two but what else? The sniper action/satisfaction doesn’t come close to the smoothness of a head shot in Halo and, incase you didn’t notice, the players move even slower than Master Chief!
Overrated! If you’ve had the pleasure of trying to multiplay it from anywhere outside of the US, lag’s a b%#^h. People that don’t understand why Halo does so well are people that can’t see the finer things in the game that add to it’s overall user ability and aesthetics.
and for f sakes the graphics are better than Halo 2, haters!

Seriously, I just got finished reading about 30 posts over on x360fanboy about the problems with the graphics in the beta. One kid went as far to compare them to ps2 graphics. Wtf? Another person pointed out a good point though, a great deal of people don’t have HD tv’s and are probably the ones complaining. I for one have a great HD set and the beta looks beatiful, I fail to see the issue. Especially the water, I mean com’on, it’s wonderful the way it flows through Valhalla. It’s rather frustrating really reading all this stuff on halo 3 from the minds of idiots for lack of a better term. Retarded ideas like playing as brutes or hunters to the calling it halo 2.5 . I really can’t go back to halo 2, if it were halo 2.5 that wouldn’t be a problem. The average guy doesn’t understand games or what it takes to make them. Everyone wants a GOW looking FPS, which would blow. In short, people really need to educate themselves on games, graphics, and the the creation of it all. Bungie is doing a stellar job, and that is coming from someone who really wants Halo to be everything it can be, which I feel come September is going to be a whole heck of a lot.
