1up.com’s Karen Chu has been playing Pac-man Championship Edition quite a bit. How would I know that? She’s said so on her 1up blog, but I already knew that since I’ve been looking up at her high score’s as they soar past mine on my friends list. That’s nothing to get mad at since it’s only Pac-man, but it sure fells bad to be getting your butt kicked in lonely ole Pac-man.
Of course, this Pac-man is different and what better would it be to get a few tips form 1up.com’s Karen Chu aka “bitterazngurl”. Sure she’s not the best, but thats better than me at the moment.
-Don’t Die. Well, sure, this may seem like a giant no-brainer but the important thing is not that you run out of lives, but you run out of dot multipliers. The more dots you eat with a single Pacman, the more they’re worth. They jump from 10, 20, 30…and so forth. As soon as you die, each dot goes back to its original worth of 10 points.
-Strategic Ghost Hunting. In the 5 minute Championship mode, there are only 2 places to go insanely proactive with eating ghosts: the very beginning (first 3 or 4 “maps”) and the key stage. If all works out, you should eat at least 16 ghosts back to back, half of those ghosts will be worth 3200 each if you get eat another pellet before the previous pellet power runs out.
-Stay Away from the 4 corners. The top and bottom edges are probably the most dangerous places to get trapped in a deluxe ghost sandwich. Make sure you are safe when clearing those areas by utilizing the power pellet.
-Play the other modes. After playing the other modes (think of it as “training”), you will be better at dot/pellet management, controlling speedy Pacman, and recognizing ghost movement behavior.
-Plan out your route. After all, the game is timed, so don’t be scared of calling out your inner OCD and planning your routes. The goal is to achieve a high dot-per-second rate so any second that is spent not eating dots or backtracking is useless.
Thanks Karen. I’ll be passing you up on the leaderboards soon. Same goes for everyone else on my friends list. The Pac-man C.E. war is on.

I think I am going to have to get this game tonight. I played the demo for awhile last night and really enjoyed it. Sometimes I just don’t get what all the fuss is about. 800 pts seems pretty reasonable to me, especially since it was designed by Toru Iwatani.
