Robert Bowling is the Community Relations Manager for Infinity Ward and the guys over at 2OpGaming were able to ask him a few questions regarding the multiplayer aspects of Call of Duty 4 last night. They talk about everything from customizable characters to sniping although he wasn’t about to let slip the release date for the beta (too bad).
Check back after the break to view the entire interview.

SGD: How many players online?
402: On consoles 16, some game modes will have 18. On the PC it’s going to be 32+.
SGD: So what are the multiplayer modes going to be in CoD4?
402: Headquarters, FFA, DM, sabotage. Modes will also be brought back from CoD2 along with some modes that aren’t announced yet. One of the unannounced modes are also my favorite.
SGD: When does the beta start?
402: We haven’t announced a date.
SGD: What can you tell us about character customizations ala Rainbow Six?
402: Fully customizable classes along with the presets and perks. You will be able to customize a primary weapon, a secondary sidearm which is a pistol. Then you get to choose grenades like frag, smoke, stun/flash.
SGD: What’s in store for the DLC for CoD4?
402: Can’t talk about it. Still kicking it around in the office.
SGD: Is the sniper rifle still a 1 shot kill?
402: Depends on the rifle and caliber. Where you get hit also matters as well. Hit detection has been refined for CoD4.
SGD: What about players who want to play syslink or split screen?
402: System link is supported along with 4 player split screen.
SGD: Any vehicles going to be included in the MP portion of the game?
402: None that you can use. But you can call in helicopter support and air strikes. You can tell it where to go but it’s AI controlled.
SGD: Snipers were a problem in CoD2, how has CoD4 balanced it out?
402: Sniping has been tweaked. There are triple the weapons in CoD4 from CoD2 without counting attachments. It’s easy to counter a sniper with another gun using the right attachment.
SGD: What can you say about the differences between the Xbox360, PS3, and PC versions?
402: They’re all on par visually. Most excited about the PC because of mods. For example, I want to create a long hallway without any lights that’s knives only. Or a king of the hill map that’s a 16 story building where the hill is on top.
SGD: Will players be able to create custom gametypes?
402: We will keep track and evolve playlists based on what people are playing.
They also promise a more detailed explanation of the whole multiplayer aspect later today, so stay tuned.
