Debate over the latest Resident Evil has been ignited by it’s 5th installment for sure. I myself tend to think that the Resident Evil series is indeed quite racist. Quite racist toward every other race other than the aforementioned black racism of the 5th, and according to the above video Gamesradar thinks much the same. Did no one listen to Rodney King? “Can’t we all just get along”. Apparently not, without it being racist toward some group or another. Can’t we all just give it a rest. It’s a fraking (Battlestar Galactica FTW while I’m at it) videogame! Sheezh!

I watched the RE5 trailer and felt that it wasn’t racist. The game is set in a new place, Africa. In Africa there are Black People…. In RE there are Zombies…… Black ZOMBIES someone call Al Sharpton.
I am an African American and didn’t feel as though it was violating any of my rights or offending me as a person. Now if the game was set in South Carolina where you played as the KKK and hung black people I would feel annoyed but its just a zombie game set in Africa.
Night of the Living dead wasn’t offensive, it was set in the country and there were country people there… southern Zombies. How racist against people who live in the country. I guess some people weren’t born with common sense, so what do you expect?

The original Night of the Living Dead had a racist moment at the end actually, if you see the uncut one the rednecks cleaning up the zombies kill the black guy after clearly seeing he isn’t infected, just because. They changed that for the TV cuts and some future releases, the uncut one isn’t seen that often.

Yes, I agree. African Americans are in Africa.. How is that racist? They have to move to different surrounding or the series could get boring. I am sure there will be different colored folks in the game, and the other games had white people killing white zombies nobody freaks out, but when there are some African American zombies people begin to flip. Now, if somebody found a easter egg in the game with a swastika that would be different story.

Night of the Living Dead is not racist, if anything George A. Romero was trying to prove a point. How SOME people are racist, in Georges films he always goes for a meaning. Night of the Living Dead was one of the first films to have a African American as a hero.

Yes, BUT the rednecks where made into racist characters in the original ending.

I thought that this type of topic would never come up regarding a game itself. I guess I was wrong. The in-game videogame racism cherry has been officially popped with a debate this widespread. Not that it hasn’t been discussed before.

Thank Shane from EGM for bringing it up. By the way nice use of an innuendo will.
Its hard to believe the flack you have to deal with when you are creative. I hope RE isn’t censored in America or something stupid like that. But anything can happen with the New ERSB. Hopefully this wont end up like manhunt 2.

This is ridiculous, did Spanish people call foul when Resident Evil 4 came out? No? Then shut up.

Webnet: Shane, Shane, Shane Bettenhausen. I’ve written about him before, and I can’t say that he’s my favorite person in the world. Never mind that though. I heard what he said and can’t say that I didn’t think the same when I first saw the trailer and again with the extended trailer.
I knew it was going to ruffle a few feathers to and here we are, but I didn’t have the pleasure of being on 1up yours. John, Garnett, -wink- -wink-. He really only said what many already were thinking. It’s amazing to me that I agreed with him, but if Dan Hsu (Dan Dan Fan Fan Shoe Shoe) can stand to work with him then all is good. His Sony defense force be damned, even if it is just a put on.
There’s much more but I think I should stop.

I am not saying that Sony Bettenhausen is racist but he was the first person on the net that I have heard of to mention this. I am not saying you got anything wrong in your story I was just making a comment against Shane.
And your right there are more important things to talk about than Special Guest Shane Bettenhausen.

I’m not saying Shane or Sony as you call him is a racist either or that you meant that. Like Dan Shu has said, he just likes to push buttons.

Now this comment just goes to show how trying to be so “PC” makes these people look ignorant. There are not “African Americans” in Africa (well, I’m sure that there are some, but you get the idea). There are blacks in Africa (or just Africans, if you want).
