Are you ready for The Xbox Domain’s fun and edgy weekly wrap party starring yours truly, the ever-loving SUPERGHOST? Well ready or not here it comes, blasting out of your interwebs as fast as the computer gnomes can carry it to your laptop, mobile device, or PC. What Has Happened Here is our light-hearted take on the week that was. While all the kinks have not been worked out of the machine, over the next several weeks you will see this space take shape and take on a life of its own. So sit back, relax and let me spotlight some highlights for the week ending December 20, 2008.
Spike TV’s Video Game Awards 2008 (aka The VGA’s)
SPIKE, you have done it once again! You managed to cram 10 minutes of entertainment into 2 hours of programing. The VGA’s are truly a mixed bag. The good news is that the awards that are delivered, for the most part, are genuinely deserved by the winners. On the other hand, all the ’star-power’ that is forcibly injected into this event takes away from what could be video games greatest night and turns it into a two-hour infomercial. Jack Black’s hosting saved the show from being a complete disaster, and his introduction and honouring of comedic gaming master Tim Freakin’ Schaefer (as he will forever be known from here on in) was a particular highlight for me. Here is some advice for those who are planning for the 2009 VGA’s. Set your PVR to record the show, fast forward through all the crap and viola! Ten solid minutes!
Got the Munchies?
Did you get your early Christmas present yet? No, I am not talking specifically about the free Doritos based Xbox LIVE Arcade title (yes, I did say Doritos based) Dash of Destruction. Rather if you downloaded this free game you would essentially be ‘gifted’ 200 Gamerscore. Well not gifted exactly, but if you are willing to devote 15 to 20 minutes of your life to this game you can earn all of the achievement points without too much difficulty. Surprisingly, this game is not all that bad. The price is certainly right, and when you are playing as the Doritos delivery truck it is actually some good fun. Best snack food based video game ever!
Crackdown 2…whew!
Well at least they are talking about it. While nothing has been formally announced, the fact that rumours are appearing is at least a good sign. But, then again we always heard Dead Rising 2 rumours and nothing has transpired as of yet. Since we are still in the rumour stage of Crackdown 2, I think I will start some of my own. You heard it here first at The Xbox Domain that Crackdown 2 will have: 10-player co-op, Motion controller support, hidden Master Chief playable character and will be developed by Bungie Studios, Vision cam support so you can map faces onto the gang members that wander the streets, and finally Crackdown 2 will be a launch title on the Xbox 720! Now there is some food for the rumour mill.
Come Get Some!
Holy cow! Some actual new Duke Nukem Forever news. We reported this week on the recently released in-game model pics. As you can see above they actually look pretty sweet! Now what we need to see is how well they have modelled the strippers in the game! Strippers are as much a part of the Duke as mom and apple pie are to America. Hail to the king baby! (Going for the exclamation point record in this paragraph) !!!
And since you can’t top Duke Nukem news I think I will bring this post to a close. Please leave some feedback let us know what you think about the WHHH. With the holiday season I may hold off on this feature over the next couple of weeks, but stay tuned for more colourful antics as made possible by The Xbox Domain.
