Its been several month’s since the now “current” Xbox 360 dashboard graced itself across the entire Xbox Life’verse’. It hit with much love initially, but all that is well doesn’t necessarily end that way. Those out there with full or a large friends list like myself are becoming increasingly frustrated with the performance of the NXE.
Speculation from myself will conclude that much like voice chat quality taking a back seat with the launch of the Xbox 360 and the new look Xbox Live back in late 2005, the Xbox 360 guide has assumed the same fate with the “cover flow” like interface getting the priority with the guide taking a back seat. I remind you that this is speculation from myself. Getting a message in the middle of a game only to have the guide freeze on you for up to 30 seconds at a time when you try to check it is in no way what I nor anyone else would call fun.

It was really bad till I cleared out the cache. It would lag for at least a minute or so. After clearing the cache it only lags for about 15 seconds.

Even so, that 15 seconds is ridiculous. You hear that "e". Can someone find a solution to this, please? That PS3 sitting next to my 360 is looking better when it comes to this issue.

It freezes alot on my but never to the point where I have to shut it down. It usually picks itself back up.

As already confirmed by MS this is a problem occuring esspecially for those who bought lots of content from the marketplace. They're aware and on it but it's a structural problem so there are several different things to do – one after another.

To perform the function, access 'memory' in the system blade, and then highlight the hard drive. Now press: Y, X, X, LB, RB, X, X.

Microsoft said that due to the NXE, it'll now be easier to deliver large updates, so semi-annual "major" updates will not be the norm anymore.

DjDATZ — thx for the useful tip on clearing the cache. You da man. (Yean, I agree…. even a 15 sec. lag is unacceptable. Tolerances should be less than 10 … min.
